Our family is flying to Japan tomorrow.

We land at Narita on Monday (b/c date line). Then we have three days in Tokyo, an overnight trip to Takayama, and three more days in Kanazawa before we head back to Tokyo for two nights, then home.

It’s only 10 days total, which feels like barely enough to get over the initial jetlag and culture shock and start settling in.

Today has been a bit hectic: packing, walkthrough of the house for the folks keeping an eye on the place (and dog!) while we’re gone, and getting this whole blog thing properly running so I can update it from Japan.

But now I’ve got my packing and chore lists all checked off, our itineraries are confirmed and downloaded, and I’ve even picked out the camera kit I’m bringing along.

Paring it down even that much was a challenge for a gear maximalist like me.

But I have a goal: everything I take to Japan that isn’t clothes our souvenirs needs to fit in my 30L backpack. That includes the cameras, tablet, and laptop (for publishing this site, because I’m incorrigible1
